On average, 10,400 cartons are manually packaged per day. Packaged kits provide high value for our customers, with the ability to order all of the necessary components in one box to complete their vehicle service jobs.

These lines can process 8 to 10,000 bags per day depending on the complexity of the kits being packaged.

Vacuum lift systems transfer packaged boxes from conveyors to pallets.

These lines include automatic carton-erecting robots, as well as state-of-the-art checkweigher systems to verify packaging accuracy. The types of kits packaged on these lines are typically high-volume products with fewer components compared to kits packaged on manual lines. The top kits packaged on automated machines are Meritor® Genuine automatic slack adjusters, Meritor Xtended Lube MXL™ u-joints and Euclid® high-quality all-makes brake repair kits. Depending on the complexity of the job, the automated lines can pack up to 7,200 cartons per day.

The lab scales inspection control and is responsible for reviewing, measuring and processing supplier and customer component PPAP’s in a timely manner. Daily functions include auditing incoming product for conformance to print requirements, reviewing non-conforming material requests by validating dimensional information on individual components or the review of assemblies for correct components, and working directly with operations departments to identify missing or mislabeled parts and suspected damaged parts. Inspection gauges calibrate site inspection tools and measure machines used during the inspection process for PPAP parts. Our team also works closely with Florence product engineering on new or revised parts development, completing dimensional studies and part inspections. Delivering high-quality parts that customers rely on is of the utmost importance and we take pride in our team’s abilities to provide timely and accurate inspection of parts and assemblies to our customers, both internal and external.

Each part is assigned to a storage location that is right-sized based on the dimensions of the packaging for each part. The picking path is organized so that heavier parts are at the beginning and lighter parts are at the end, to ensure that heavier parts are on the bottom of the outbound shipping container. Operators travel through the area with motorized walk-behind carts to efficiently pick customer orders. In this area, we currently complete around 3,000 picks per day and are planning output and efficiency improvements. We are also implementing wrist mounted scanners to allow operators to work hands free providing additional safety and efficiency.

Opened in 1976, its parts lineup includes brake, wheel-end, drivetrain, steering and suspension product lines with more than 240,000 active part numbers for trucks, tractors, trailers, buses, coaches, fire trucks and other specialty vehicles. Capabilities include same-day shipment for vehicle-down emergencies, highly automated component packaging, customer care and support, and industry-leading aftermarket innovations such as Meritor's PlatinumShield™ III coating.

On average, 300 lines of true emergency orders are shipped out of Florence daily. Our operations team has partnered with Packsize to implement an on demand box-making machine for the Unit Down line. This machine uses the dimensions of the parts being packaged to generate an optimally sized box for every Unit Down shipment. Additionally, customer support is provided via Meritor’s Uptime Services Group, which accelerates the delivery of parts to customers in emergency situations and unscheduled repairs. This specialized group based out of Florence, Kentucky, primarily focuses on increasing the speed of repairs to keep vehicles on the road, with added emphasis for emergency and unit down order fulfillment. The Uptime Services Group also provides dedicated support to expedite the fulfillment of special orders for not in stock or short supply parts, or those not in our regular inventory. In addition, we provide customers with a single point of contact for accurate delivery expectations on all special-order items identified as either out of service or at the end of life cycle, which allows customers to better operate their business.
