Pharmacy

Pharmacy

The Pharmacy Department utilizes the advanced practice of resident-facilitated, pharmacist-driven and patient-centered medication management model, focused on acute care service that is extended to post-discharge care of chronic medical conditions. Many of our clinical pharmacists are board-certified in pharmacotherapy, pediatrics, and critical care.

Conference Room

Conference Room

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program’s Teaching Certificate is designed for pharmacy residents who are interested in receiving formal training in delivering pharmacy education, as well as potentially pursuing a career in academia. Residents will develop preceptorship and leadership skills through overseeing interns and APPE students.

Rounds

Rounds

Our clinical pharmacists, residents, and faculty participate in rounds with various services such as geriatrics, infectious diseases (ID), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and Family Medicine rounds.

Ambulatory Care

Ambulatory Care

The Ambulatory Care rotation will provide the residents the opportunity to practice the roles of the pharmacist in this unique setting such as patient education and medication counseling, post-discharge follow-ups via phone calls and clinic visitations, and drug therapy monitoring. Residents will provide safe and effective patient care to a diverse range of patients, including those with multiple co-morbidities, high-risk medication regimens, and multiple medications following a consistent patient care process.

Pediatric and Neonatal Medicine

Pediatric and Neonatal Medicine

Pediatric and Neonatal Medicine is a 6-week core rotation that will introduce residents to the care of pediatric and neonatal patients during acute illness. Residents will develop clinical skills and knowledge based in the pediatric patient population at AHWM, understand the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic differences in this special population, and effectively monitor for drug appropriateness, dosing, and safety during teaching rounds with pediatricians and neonatologists.

Infectious Disease-Antimicrobial Stewardship

Infectious Disease-Antimicrobial Stewardship

Infectious Disease/ASP Rotation is a 6-week rotation that will provide the resident with a general understanding of the etiology, pathophysiology, treatment, and prognosis of common infectious diseases. Residents will develop a general knowledge of the anti-infective agents and their roles in the treatment of infectious diseases, and by designing therapeutic regimens that incorporate the principles of evidence-based medicine with a special emphasis on rational use and monitoring of anti-infective agents.
