Welcome to The Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences -- CRAS, where your dream of a career in the recording arts is only 12 months away.
Welcome to our Virtual Tour. To Be CRAS™ is to be hands-on and up close, that’s why we invite you to visit us in person or to attend our Open House. We also understand that for many reasons not everyone can make the trip. In this Virtual 360 visit our campus, our studios and labs. Hear from instructors and real students about what it means to Be CRAS. We look forward to hearing from you.
The CRAS campus encompasses two locations, both are open 24/7 so students can meet, work, study or simply hang in their favorite environment.
On this page you can explore the Control Room of Studio A. There are 8 rooms like this throughout CRAS, each with different equipment, acoustics and attributes just like in the field! And, unlike online courses, CRAS students get to experience each one, hands-on.
Outfitted with all the professional equipment; isolation booths; microphones from Neumann, Blue, Sennheiser… a full patch bay; Yamaha grand piano; Hammond organ; and more that a graduate would expect to encounter on the job — Studio A is CRAS’s hands-on “nirvana.”
CRAS has its own 6,000 sq ft live sound stage and venue because like all CRAS classes, the theory and the practical are one. Students learn how to set up and “fly” a line array, set up and mix monitors and more… everything you will need to know to “work the stage.”
People who love live sound are attracted by the immediacy and adrenalin of that one shot to get it right, right there, on the spot! When you’re at the controls of a “front of house” mix, there can be 20,000 or more people listening to your “product” as you create it. The CRAS Master Recording Program II includes a live sound curriculum covering all the bases from theory to setup, analog and digital mixing, signal processing, “rules of the road” and more.
Studio D is purpose-built for 5.1 surround and video game audio. Soundscapes, environments, other worlds of reality and fantasy, these are the realm of audio for gaming. A combination of skills and technologies used in music recording and sound for film; video game sound is a huge industry that continues to grow as gaming becomes more and more popular with players of all age groups. In Studio D these virtual worlds become a hands-on reality for CRAS students.
Dialog replacement, audio for animation, sound effects and more are all part of the magic of movies and TV and that’s what happens in Studio C. At CRAS we believe in a well-rounded education that prepares our graduates for any and all opportunities that may come their way. We start with the fundamentals and step it up from there, exposing students to a broad spectrum of specialized fields such as live sound, sound for broadcast, TV, film, radio and of course… music.
CRAS was the first audio recording school to be an authorized Pro Tools training center. Today, Pro Tools is the industry-leading recording software program and can be found in every studio, live venue or post house… and CRAS offers six tiers of Pro Tools certifications insuring its graduates are ready to roll.
